Rob & Lizzie have a 100 acre organic (licensed with the Soil Association) mixed farm in the village of Pitney, situated just off the Somerset Levels. Glebe Farm has been farmed by the Walrond family for over 200 years with three generations involved on the farm today. They have pig, poultry, sheep and beef livestock enterprises, as well as growing three acres of vegetables which are picked fresh daily to supply their own farm shop and other local shops and restaurants.
Their 600 laying hens are a breed called Lohmann Brown who love ranging outside whatever the weather, producing beautiful brown eggs.
Pitney Farm’s Saddleback sows are crossed with a Large White boar to produce 200 pigs a year that are both hardy enough for a life spent outside and very tasty! So tasty that they produce their own sausages, burgers, smoked and dry cured bacons and hams.
Rob and Lizzie are winners of the Somerset Life ‘Best Farm Shop’ and ‘Best Organic Trader/Product’ as well as the Taste of the West Gold Award in the ‘Local Retail Outlet’ section.
Nick & Claire Bragg from Frogmary Green Farm first met Rob through his work for the Diocese of Bath and Wells as the Rural Life Advisor, helping them arrange the first school visits to Frogmary Green Farm. Rob shares their passion for building stronger links between farmers and consumers and he has been involved with many farm and school days, inviting children onto farms to learn for themselves how their food is produced.
Rob and Lizzie have become good friends and help the Braggs organise the Frogmary Green Farm Open Farm Events.
